one incident when Colbert's humvee drives into a sobka field (kinda like quicksand) and they're trying to rescue it under enemy fire, some battalion office runs past and asks him to burn the vehicle and thermite the radios.

Colbert: " I'm not abandoning this vehicle!"

a smartass marine: "we're going to die because Colbert's in love with his humvee."

after that, Fick tells them that the name of a town they went through was called Al Gharraf. And it's getting the shit bombed out of it the same time this talk was happening.

Colbert: "I hope they call it El Pancake when we're through with it."

El Pancake?!?!?! wtf?

Generation Kill (the book) is full of anecdotes like these. It's awesome! reminds me of why i like reading so much.
